The Hawaii Matsuri Taiko Festival brings together performers from Hawaiʻi and Japan in a celebration of taiko, culture, community, and friendship. Presented by Hawaii Matsuri Taiko and Somei Taiko, the festival showcases both traditional and contemporary taiko performance while fostering cultural exchange through music and the performing arts.
A central mission of the festival is to provide opportunities for guest artists and taiko groups from outside Hawaiʻi to share their artistry with local audiences and performers. Through these exchanges, we celebrate the diversity of taiko traditions while strengthening the bonds that connect the worldwide taiko community.
At the same time, the festival serves as an opportunity to highlight the vibrant taiko culture that has flourished in Hawaiʻi for generations. While deeply rooted in Japanese tradition, taiko has taken on a unique life of its own in Hawaiʻi, where performers, teachers, and community groups continue to preserve, develop, and share the art form. Through this festival, we honor both our connection to Japan and the thriving future of taiko beyond its shores.

Whether you are a complete beginner or an experienced performer, Hawaii Matsuri Taiko and Somei Taiko offer opportunities to learn the art of taiko in a supportive and welcoming environment.
